In North Carolina, there are a few different license categories to make note of:
· Provisional Broker
· Broker In Charge (BIC)
· Limited Non-Residential Commercial
Provisional brokers are essentially entry level brokers, while brokers are ordinary real estate agents who typically work with a firm. From there, BIC status essentially places you in leadership position if you work for a real estate firm. From there, you’ll be the one counted on to ensure that all of the other brokers at your firm are maintaining a current license. Applying to Take the Real Estate Broker Exam in North Carolina
The next step in order to take the test is to apply to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission and submit a background check. Once they review your application and background check, the Commission will give you a notice of exam eligibility. You should then arrange your North Carolina real estate licensing test with Prometric, the state's exam provider, after you receive the notice.
Passing the North Carolina Real Estate Broker’s Exam
Completing the educational requirements is an essential first step in passing the examination. However, for the majority of learners, this can oftentimes be insufficient. You'll almost certainly need to devote more time to studying and practicing before your exam after your prelicensing class ends.

You’re Licensed…Now What?
It is necessary to pass the exam in order to work as a licensed real estate broker in North Carolina. Now that you’ve got the hard part done, you must locate a broker-in-charge with whom you can hang your license. As a provisional real estate broker, you are only allowed to work on behalf of a broker-in-charge and not on your own. Many people will start looking for a broker-in-charge or firm as soon as they decide to get their license.
The initial license receive will be a Provisional Broker's License. To remove your license's provisional status, the state of North Carolina requires you to complete post-licensing training. There are three 90-hour courses you need to finish: Broker Relationships and Responsibilities, Contracts and Closings, and NC Laws, Rules, & Legal Concepts. You must complete all three classes within 18 months of receiving your license in order for your license to remain active.
