Yikes! The June 10, 2026 Continuing Education deadline has come and gone, and if your CE hours are not complete, you may be wondering what happens next.

Is your North Carolina real estate license on the brink of becoming inactive as of 12:00 AM on July 1, 2026? Don’t panic. You still have a path forward, and Skyline School is here to help you get back on track.
Quick Answer: What Should I Do If I Missed the NC Real Estate CE Deadline?
If you missed the June 10 CE deadline, you should still renew your license by June 30, 2026. Renewing your license and completing your CE are two separate steps.
If you renew your license but did not complete the required CE, your license may go inactive on July 1. To reactivate, you will need to complete the required current-year CE, make up the CE deficiency, and submit the proper activation form to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.
Don’t Forget to Renew Your License
Even if you missed the CE requirement this year, it is still critical to renew your license.
Failing to renew your license by 11:59 PM on June 30, 2026 can result in your license expiring. That means you could end up having to reactivate and reinstate your license, which is not exactly anyone’s idea of a fun summer activity.
Head over to NCREC.gov and log in to your Licensee Account to renew your broker license. Once you have completed the online renewal form and submitted your renewal payment to the NCREC, the next question is: how do you reactivate your renewed license if you did not meet your CE requirement?
How to Reactivate Your NC Real Estate License After Missing CE
According to NC Real Estate Commission Rule 58A .1703, if your broker license has been inactive for less than two years and you have a CE deficiency, you generally need to:
Complete the current year’s General Update Course;
Complete one current-year elective course;
Complete either one or two additional elective courses to make up the CE hours missed in the previous license year; and
Submit Form 2.08 to activate your NC real estate license.
In plain English: the number of CE classes you need depends on how much CE you completed before the June 10 deadline.
If You Completely Missed CE Last Year
Did you miss both your Update course and your elective course for the 2025–2026 license year?
If so, you will generally need to take:
One General Update Course; and
Three CE Elective Courses.
Here is the basic process:
Renew your license through NCREC.gov by 11:59 PM on June 30, 2026.
Enroll in four CE classes with Skyline School. Classes for the new license year will be available beginning July 1. Save 10% if you sign up for 3+ CE classes with us by using the code 3ORMORE.
Successfully complete all four CE courses and receive your course completion certificates directly from us.
File Form 2.08 with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission to activate your NC real estate license.
If You Completed an Update or Elective Course, But Not Both
If you completed only one CE class last license year, either an Update course or a CE elective, then you will generally need to take:
One General Update Course; and
Two CE Elective Courses.
Here is the basic process:
Renew your license through NCREC.gov by 11:59 PM on June 30, 2026.
Enroll in three CE classes with Skyline School. Classes for the new license year will be available beginning July 1. Save 10% if you sign up for 3+ CE classes with us by using the code 3ORMORE.
Successfully complete all three CE courses and receive your course completion certificates directly from us.
File Form 2.08 with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission to activate your NC real estate license.

Important note: The NCREC does not allow any school to offer Update courses in a self-paced format. Your General Update course must be completed live online or in person.
Are You a Broker-in-Charge Whose License Went Inactive?
If you are a Broker-in-Charge or BIC-Eligible broker and your license goes inactive, we know this can feel overwhelming.
Once your license goes inactive, you lose BIC Eligible status. Before you can regain BIC Eligible status, you must first return your license to active status.
That means you will generally need to complete the required General Update course and the required number of electives to reactivate your license. After your license is active again, you can begin the process of regaining BIC Eligible status.
This may require taking the 12-Hour Broker-in-Charge Course offered by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission and submitting the appropriate request form to the Commission.
The silver lining? The 12-Hour BIC Course is now offered online and self-paced by the Commission, so you do not have to travel to Raleigh just to get your BIC status back.
Frequently Asked Questions About Missing the NC Real Estate CE Deadline
What is the NC real estate CE deadline?
North Carolina real estate brokers must complete their annual continuing education by June 10 each year to remain on active status for the next license year.
What happens if I miss the June 10 CE deadline?
If you miss the June 10 CE deadline, your license may become inactive on July 1 unless you qualify for another exception. You should still renew your license by June 30 to avoid expiration.
Can I renew my NC real estate license if I did not finish CE?
Yes. You can renew your license even if you did not complete your CE. Renewing your license and completing CE are separate requirements. If you miss CE but renew on time, you will need to reactivate your license after completing the required courses.
Can I practice real estate if my license is inactive?
No. If your license is inactive, you cannot engage in brokerage activity until your license is properly returned to active status.
What classes do I need if I missed all of my CE?
If you missed all of your CE for the prior license year, you will generally need one General Update course and three elective courses to cure the deficiency and meet the current-year requirement.
What if I only missed either the Update course or the elective?
If you completed only one of the two required CE courses, you will generally need one General Update course and two elective courses.
Do BICs take BICUP to reactivate after missing CE?
If your license went inactive due to a CE deficiency, you should take the General Update course, not BICUP, as part of reactivation. Once your license is active again, you can work on regaining BIC Eligible status if needed.
Final Step: Get Back on Track
Missing the CE deadline is stressful, but it does not have to derail your real estate career.
Renew your license by June 30, complete the CE courses required for your situation, keep your course completion certificates, and submit the proper activation paperwork to the NCREC.
Skyline School offers live online General Update courses, live online electives, and self-paced elective options to help you complete your CE and move forward.
