If you are gearing up for your North Carolina real estate license renewal this year, there is a minor administrative update you need to be prepared for.

At their January 21, 2026 meeting in Raleigh, the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) approved an amendment to rule 21 NCAC 58A .0503Â regarding license renewals.
Because we know you are busy helping clients, writing offers, and navigating the market, the team here at Skyline School stays on top of NCREC updates so you don't have to. Here is the quick breakdown of what this rule change means for your upcoming renewal.
TL;DR: The 2026 Renewal Update
The Change:Â The annual broker license renewal fee has increased from $45.00 to $50.00.
Effective Date:Â This rule change officially takes effect on April 1, 2026.
The Renewal Window: All licenses still expire on June 30. You must renew on the Commission’s website within the 45 days prior to expiration (starting May 15).
What You Need to Know
While a $5 increase is small, it is important to know about it before logging into the Commission's portal so you aren't caught off guard at checkout. Everything else about the renewal process—including your requirement to provide a valid email address and the specific disclosures required for Brokers-in-Charge—remains exactly the same.
Starting April 1, 2026, the new $50 fee will apply to any broker desiring to renew their license. Just like in previous years, you will handle this entirely online through the NCREC website. You must confirm your renewal and submit your payment between May 15 and June 30 to keep your license active.
